If you want to get started with the new ETS6 and the KNX technology, but don’t know where to start, KNX offers you a wide range of possibilities to learn the ins and outs of our new ETS6 software. By following this step-by-step plan, you will acquire all the knowledge and skills you need to easily develop the best automation projects with KNX and ETS6.

But before you start, as a professional working with KNX, it is convenient that you have a MyKNX account that will become a key part of your daily activities and will also allow you to access several benefits. With MyKNX you can:

Step 1: Learn the basics with the (new) ETS6 eCampus online

The real magic of developing a smart home project with KNX is in our innovative software, the new ETS6. Our online eCampus provides you with a great introduction to the basics of KNX and ETS6, so that you can easily start with confidence on your first project. To start with the ETS6 eCampus you will only have to create a personal MyKNX account. Through interactive lessons and video training you will learn the basic concepts and how to set-up a project, as simulated exercises help you to deepen your knowledge.

With the ETS6 eCampus you can learn at your own pace: work through step-by-step, test your knowledge after each lesson, repeat a step if you fail and delight in your learning progress. When you finished your lessons successfully (with a grade of minimum 85 %) you receive a Certificate of Achievement and a discount voucher to buy your first ETS6 Lite license. You have now gained the first insights into smart home and smart building control with KNX! Now it is time to practice a bit more with a real ETS6 software and KNX Virtual devices.

 

 

Step 2: Install ETS6 and configure your virtual smart home device with KNX Virtual

If you want to become more familiar with connecting devices with the new ETS6, you can start in only a few clicks thanks to KNX Virtual. KNX Virtual will help you to learn the ETS6 basics and gain more confidence in working with KNX by setting up a simulated KNX installation using this tool. KNX Virtual is a Windows-based application simulating different types of KNX devices. The tool if free of charge and does not require any investment in hardware (such as power supply, USB or IP interface, KNX devices) as you only need to work with virtual devices (such as: light switches, temperature control, presence and motion sensors…) and ETS6 software.

But first, you should download and install ETS6 on your computer. To do so, go to your MyKNX account and select ETS in the “Shop” Menu. You can download the ETS6 Demo from any of the links shown.

 

 

Then, you can easily download KNX Virtual via your MyKNX account. Simply go to our shop and add ‘KNX Virtual’ to your shopping basket. You will not be charged while finishing the order and will receive an email with a link to download the tool afterwards. Then, you can download, unzip and install the “KV.exe” file and launch (double-click) it.

 

 

KNX Virtual represents more than 20 different types of KNX devices, all connected to one TP line. These KNX devices operate upon several ‘building loads’ like lamps, dimmable lamps, blinds, heating & cooling valves, but also make it possible to rehearse with more advanced building features like weather modules, alarms, scenes and even logic operations.

 

 

Step 3: Extend your KNX knowledge with online KNX Webinars and KNX Literature

If you want to gain further knowledge about dedicated topics, the online webinars by KNX Association are the best choice for you. These online live presentations are about both technical as nontechnical matters. Simply follow from behind your computer and interact if you have questions.

Webinars offered by KNX Association are free of charge and are an extremely efficient way to acquire knowledge by means of short online presentations. KNX Association offers a vast selection of brochures and reference books, published by KNX Association and third parties. Besides the standardised KNX training documentation, used by the certified training centres, the ‘KNX Handbook for Home and Building Control’ is to be recommended especially for newcomers.

Step 4: Become a certified KNX Partner

Ready for the first professional step? Then it is time to follow a course in one of our KNX Training Centres which offer different courses you can find all over the world! After successfully finishing a course, you will receive a certificate to prove your knowledge and skills. There are several models of certified KNX training: KNX Basic course, KNX Advanced course, KNX Tutor course, KNX HVAC Specialist course, KNX Refresher course…. The KNX Basic course is the first course that one must attend to become a KNX Partner and to be listed as a KNX Partner on the KNX website. The theoretical and practical part of the Basic course is organized in person. It is however possible that the theoretical part of the course is also organized online.
